What types of stuffings can I use for my upholstery project
Choosing the stuffing for your furniture is a big deal because it affects how comfy and durable your piece will be. Let's take a closer look at five common stuffing options – foam, polyester fill, coir fiber, wool stuffing, and cotton lintas – and lets break down what they're all about.

Polyureathane for upholstery stuffings when recovering furniture.
Foam: Polyurethane foam is the most readily available and common method of padding furniture. It's versatile, bouncy, and can be as firm or soft as you want. It's great for sofas and chairs, but it will lose its firmness over time, especially if it's not high-quality foam. Foam can be expensive, but its easy to use and install. Its available in sheets or slabs.

Polyester fill for upholstery stuffings when recovering furniture.
Polyester Fill: This fibre is like the budget-friendly buddy of stuffing materials. Polyester fill is light, easy to care for, and doesn't cause allergies. It will squish down after a while, so isn't normally used on its own. Its available in loose fill to use as traditional stuffings and cushions, or by the roll for wrapping an d layering.

Coir fibre for upholstery stuffings when recovering furniture.
Coir Fibre: This fibre is the natural choice, made from coconut husks. It's eco-friendly and firm, perfect for traditional-style furniture. It is used in the first layers of stuffings for structure and support. It is covered with a hessian layered and sewn into shape. Soft fibres, such as cotton lintas, are placed on the top for comfort and shape. It can be used as a substitute for horsehair.

Pure wool for upholstery stuffings when recovering furniture.
Wool Stuffing: Wool fibre is like a luxury treat for your furniture. It's cozy, regulates temperature, and lasts a long time. It can be a bit pricey, and if you're allergic to wool, it's not the best choice, but overall its an excellent choice for high-end furniture and luxury.

Cotton lintas for upholstery stuffings when recovering furniture.
Cotton Lintas: This stuffing is the breathable option, made from cotton fibers. Although it usually comes in a "roll" the fibres are actually loose. It's great for top stuffings on high-end furniture, providing comfort and flexibility. Just be aware that it might flatten out over time so plenty is needed.
